Custom Driveway Patio Wood Privacy Fence + Matching Heavy Duty Pedestrian Gate

Charming young couple in the San Gabriel Valley needed a new custom patio wood privacy fence with a matching heavy duty pedestrian gate.  Although the following photo does not show it, the old driveway patio wood fence and gate was hobbled together for the house to be saleable, and recent high winds (plus the initial poor quality construction) had left this old lattice fence finally flimsily flapping and falling apart.  And zero privacy only made it worse.

Just another fun day at the office.  So we got work on this new improvement and enhancement to their property.  A traditional and classic vertical dog ear plank board-on-board wood fence was deemed an appropriate accentuation for the Tudor style residence of the property.   Yep, that works and looks great together.  This little project is going to turn out fantabulous.  Over time the patio slab had come out of level, with a very slight crest in the middle and down slopes on each side.  So we had to carefully and precisely match that in our build for all the lines and spaces to look beautiful and natural and line up just right.

All new posts in fresh concrete, with slightly elevated foundations to isolate the posts from soil and moisture to inhibit rot and infestation.  A super beefy hinge post for the gate buried 3.5′ deep in fresh concrete to hold up that matching heavy duty wood pedestrian gate, but of course.  What if they want to bar-b-que or maybe do a Sunday brunch on a beautiful LA day, without being on display for passing vehicular or pedestrian traffic?  Problem solved.  And the heavy duty gravity latch for the gate has a pad-lockable hole so at night time they can just padlock the latch from the inside.

Yes it was just after sunset when we finished.  Clean up, sweep & blow, load up the truck and pull away a little bit for some quick photos for everybody.  And yes we used heavy duty vertical planks throughout as well.  Nothing is too good for our customers.  I’m especially proud of my heavy duty wood gate frame design and construction.  LA is full of crappy gates, with matching wood fences should you feel delusionally inclined to patronize a discount crew in order to experience one of those for yourself.  My advice, go for the quality and skip the regrets you’d have later.

Now it’s a really cool & cozy driveway patio right off the kitchen!  “Oh honey, can I make you a nice burger while you wrench on your car this beautiful Saturday afternoon?”  “Sure Babe, that’d be great!”  OR.  “I invited the Smiths down for espresso and pastries for the sunset tonight.  They’re on their way walking down and should be here in like 5 or 10 minutes!”  “Oh cool Babe, Jimbo said he got a promotion at Space-X.  I want to ask him when we’re going to Mars.”  Very pleased with this project.
